πThe Golden Rule of Wallet Security
Never share your seed phrase or private key with anyone. Ever.
Your seed phrase is the master key to your wallet. Anyone who has it can access your TRX, USDT TRC20, and all other tokens. No legitimate wallet provider, exchange, or support team will ever ask for your seed phrase. If someone asks, it's a scam.
This single rule is the foundation of all wallet security. Everything else builds on this principle. If you protect your seed phrase, you protect your funds.
πSeed Phrase & Private Key Protection
- Write it down on paper: Use pen and paper. Never use a printer, screenshot, or digital device.
- Store in a secure location: Use a fireproof safe or bank safety deposit box. Make multiple copies in different locations.
- Never store digitally: No cloud storage, no notes app, no email, no photos. Digital storage is vulnerable to hacks.
- Never enter it on any website: Only enter your seed phrase inside a legitimate wallet app when restoring a wallet.
- Consider metal storage: For large holdings, use fireproof and waterproof metal seed plates (e.g., CryptoSteel, Billfodl).
- Test your backup: Before storing large amounts, test that your seed phrase works by recovering your wallet on a secondary device.
If you have significant holdings, consider using a hardware wallet (Ledger, SafePal). It keeps your private keys offline and adds an extra layer of security.
π£Phishing Protection
Phishing is one of the most common ways users lose their funds. Here's how to protect yourself:
- Always verify URLs: Before entering any information, check the website URL carefully. Look for misspellings or extra characters (e.g., "tronsell.com" vs "tr0nsell.com").
- Only download from official sources: Get wallet apps from official app stores (Google Play, Apple App Store) or the developer's official website. Check the developer name and download count.
- Never click suspicious links: Be cautious of links in emails, messages, or social media. Scammers create urgency to make you act without thinking.
- Beware of "wallet verification" requests: Legitimate services will never ask you to "verify" your wallet by entering your seed phrase.
- Check the sender: Scammers often impersonate legitimate companies. Check the email address carefully.
- Use bookmarks: Bookmark important websites (like Tronsell, TronLink, Tronscan) to avoid typing URLs incorrectly.
Urgent requests, threats of account closure, promises of free tokens in exchange for seed phrase, and emails from "support" asking for your private information. These are all scams.
π±App & Device Security
- Enable biometric authentication: Use fingerprint or Face ID to lock your wallet app.
- Use strong passwords: Create strong, unique passwords for your wallet app and device. Use a password manager if needed.
- Keep software updated: Always use the latest version of your wallet app and device operating system to get security patches.
- Install antivirus software: On computers, use reputable antivirus software to protect against malware and keyloggers.
- Be cautious with public Wi-Fi: Avoid accessing your wallet on public or unsecured Wi-Fi networks. Use a VPN if necessary.
- Lock your device: Always lock your phone or computer when not in use to prevent unauthorized access.
For maximum security, consider using a dedicated device for your crypto transactions β a device that you don't use for browsing, email, or social media.
πΈTransaction Security
- Always verify addresses: Before confirming any transaction, double-check the recipient address. Compare it character by character.
- Beware of address poisoning: Scammers may send a small amount from a similar-looking address to trick you. Always verify the full address.
- Check the network: Ensure you are sending on the correct network (TRON for TRX and USDT TRC20). Sending to the wrong network (Ethereum, BSC) results in permanent loss.
- Use small test transactions: For large amounts, send a small test transaction first to confirm the address is correct.
- Check transaction details: In your wallet, verify the amount, fee, and recipient before confirming.
- Be cautious of smart contract approvals: When interacting with dApps, carefully review what permissions you are granting. Revoke approvals you no longer use.
TRON transactions cannot be reversed. Once confirmed on the blockchain, they are final. Always double-check everything before sending.
π¨Common Scams to Avoid
Fake emails pretending to be from wallet providers or exchanges, asking you to "verify" your wallet by entering your seed phrase on a fake website.
Copycat websites that look like the real thing. They ask you to enter your seed phrase to "connect" or "validate" your wallet.
Scammers posing as customer support on social media, Discord, or Telegram, offering help with "wallet issues" and asking for your seed phrase.
Promises of free tokens or rewards in exchange for "verifying" your wallet by entering your seed phrase on a fake website.
Scammers impersonate friends, influencers, or celebrities, promising to multiply your crypto if you send them funds or share your seed phrase.
Fake wallet apps that look like the real thing. When you enter your seed phrase, they steal your funds instead of creating a wallet.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Legitimate services will never ask for your seed phrase. Always trust your instincts and verify through official channels.
π¨What If Your Wallet is Compromised?
If you suspect your wallet has been compromised or your seed phrase exposed, act immediately:
-
1
Don't panic β but act fast
Time is critical. The attacker may already have access or could access your funds at any moment.
-
2
Create a new wallet
Open your wallet app (or a new one) and create a brand new wallet with a new seed phrase. Write it down securely.
-
3
Move all funds immediately
Send all your TRX, USDT TRC20, and any other tokens from the compromised wallet to the new wallet address. Do this as quickly as possible.
-
4
Revoke token approvals
Use TronScan to revoke any smart contract approvals on the compromised wallet to prevent further unauthorized access.
-
5
Stop using the compromised wallet
Never use the old wallet again. The seed phrase is no longer secure and can be used by the attacker at any time.
If your seed phrase is compromised, every second counts. The attacker could drain your wallet at any moment. Move your funds to a new wallet immediately.
